Welp, it’s winter

It is 10:30 a.m. Just finished editing some photos. I’d love to get dressed and haul tail to Lakewood for my weekly Mexican mocha and empanada from Dahlia Coffee. But guess what?

IT’S 2 DEGREES OUTSIDE

Could I bundle up and go anyway? Yes. But I was outside when it was 4 degrees and my face hurt.

Welcome to winter in Cleveland.

😑

Anyway. I haven’t posted here in a minute…I think my last post was in November about my blog changes. The reason why I went quiet for a few months was because I was burnt out! I had a busy summer, traveled to Philly, shot a ton of events in September, shot a wedding…by the time the holidays rolled around I could tell my body and mind needed a break. So I’ve largely been in the house all winter. I did feel a bit of FOMO seeing Instagram stories and reels from all the events happening around the city, but deep down I knew I needed to rest.

I’m slowly emerging from my cave. Thursday was Poetry Unplugged’s 4 year anniversary show, and I shot Plan B’s event last Saturday. It was great to see everyone and have a camera in my hands again. I really haven’t been shooting for pleasure because life has been so busy.

I do sometimes think back to those first few months in early 2024, when I was learning about photography. I used to go downtown on Thursdays after work and wander E. 9th street with my camera. Yes, half the photos were overexposed or underexposed, but everything was so new that I didn’t really care. I just wanted to shoot more.

Perhaps the trick is to get out of Cleveland for a bit. When I was in Philly, I was shooting everything and anything.

Since this is my first post of 2026, I feel like I should list my photography goals. I don’t really have much: keep tending to my business, improving my skills, maybe get that creative project launched. I would like to add a new lens to my collection. I’ve got Fuji’s 33 and 50, and Viltrox’s 27 and 75. If I were to get some new lenses, it would definitely be Fuji’s 16-55 and 50-140. I had to wear my harness at the PU gig on Thursday because I hate having to change lenses. It was nice having two bodies with two primes at the ready.

I would like to try adding a bit of variety to my work, though. I was seriously contemplating buying a Mamiya medium format film camera. Fujifilm also came to Pixel Connection last year, and I got to try the GFX100 II. Switching from mirrorless to medium format or just trying film would be something new for me.

We’ll see what I do in 2026. Hopefully I do something cool.

Anywho, here are some of the pics I took after Philly through the end of 2025.
